Stella turns your goals into personalised audio stories you listen to; Finch is a self-care pet app where you look after a bird by finishing small daily goals. Pick Stella to feel a future, Finch to build a gentle routine. Facts here were checked on store pages in September 2026.
Disclosure. manifestlings is our own app; it is listed among the options, and no app paid to be here. Prices checked September 2026 on the App Store; where a price was unclear, we say "see the store page".
The 30-second answer
Choose Stella if you want to feel a future: you tell it your goals, and it turns them into a narrated audio story you listen to. Choose Finch if you want a small daily habit with company: you look after a bird by ticking off tiny goals and check-ins. One is for imagining, the other is for routine.
They overlap less than the search results suggest. Stella is a manifestation app with a voice. Finch is a self-care app with a pet. Plenty of people end up with both on the same phone, and the last sections show how that can work.
What each one does
Stella - Manifest Anything is made by Perl Productions LLC. Its App Store description centres on personalised audio narratives: you share what you want, and the app generates stories that describe those goals as already happening, with offline listening and progress tracking. The maker's site adds narrator voice options, ambient soundscapes and a swipeable stack of affirmations. There is no pet, and no way to record your own voice; one reviewer on the store page specifically asks for that.

Finch: Self-Care Pet is made by Finch Care Public Benefit Corporation. You look after a bird, and the bird gains energy when you complete your own goals. The store page lists morning mood check-ins, evening gratitude reflections, habit and goal tracking, guided breathing, bullet journaling, sleep preparation and a mood insights dashboard. The maker's site stresses positive reinforcement: completing goals earns energy for the bird's adventures. Finch has an Editors' Choice badge and a rating of 4.9 from roughly 757,000 ratings on the App Store, while Stella showed 4.7 from about 5,100.
Neither is a treatment for anything. If low mood or anxiety is heavy, a doctor or therapist is the right person to talk to, and these apps can sit beside that help.

Price and platforms
Finch's core is free. According to its own site, you can care for your bird, go on adventures, set goals and write reflections without paying, and Finch Plus adds extras such as more reflection prompts, more timers and extra seasonal rewards. Finch runs on iPhone and Android.
Stella is a subscription app. Its App Store page lists several paid plans, and the maker's site advertises a 7-day free trial. Because the plans and their prices change, see the store page for the current numbers. Some reviewers on the store page mention where the paywall appears, so try the trial before you commit to anything.
On platforms, we found a mismatch worth flagging. Stella's App Store listing is for iPhone, and the maker's website says it is also on Google Play. If you use Android, check Google Play in your region. Our earlier apps like Stella page describes the situation as it stood before that; if in doubt, the store is the source of truth.
For anxious days
Finch is the better fit when your head is loud and you need something small to do. Breathing exercises, a mood check-in and a single tiny goal give you a way in that asks for very little. The bird's energy system also means you get something back for a short session. See relaxation techniques for anxiety for tools that need no app at all.
Stella can help in a different way. A narrated story is easy to follow with your eyes closed, so it suits wind-down time, and some people find a calm voice describing a good day easier to take in than writing about it. It is imagination practice with no clinical method behind it, so treat it as a pleasant ritual.
For building habits
Here Finch has a clear edge. Daily goals, check-ins and a pet that reacts to what you do are the whole design. If you already know what you want to work on, whether that is water, sleep or a walk, Finch gives it a home. Our page on habit tracking apps with a virtual pet compares the whole category, and apps like Finch lists alternatives.

Stella is not built around habit tracking. It has a daily story, which is a habit of its own, but nothing to tick off. Reviews on the store page mention that the daily stories can start to feel repetitive, which is a fair thing to check during a trial.
Using both
The pairing works because the two jobs do not collide. A simple split looks like this: Finch in the morning for check-in and goals, Stella at night for a short story before sleep. Keep the wish itself specific, one sentence long, and let each app do what it does best.
If you use both, it helps to watch for one trap. Two subscriptions can add up fast, and both apps are happy to be opened for a second daily habit you did not need. Start with the free side of Finch and the Stella trial, then keep only what you actually open after two weeks.
Who should skip which
Skip Stella if you dislike listening to voices, if you want to record your own, or if you need something that tracks what you did today. The whole product is audio, and it stays audio. If you like the sound of your own voice in a recording, an app such as ThinkUp fits better, and the best affirmation apps page compares the options.
Skip Finch if you want to work on one specific wish and find general self-care goals distracting. Finch is broad on purpose: it asks about sleep, water, mood and chores as easily as it asks about dreams. A person who opens a manifestation app to think about one thing may find that the daily list pulls their attention elsewhere.
Both apps ask you to set up before you get anything back. Stella asks about your goals and preferences so it can write stories, and Finch asks about what you want to work on so it can suggest goals. Give each one ten honest minutes on the first day, because the answers you give at the start shape everything after.
The gap between them
Look at the table again and one cell is empty: an app that has a pet and is also built around manifestation. Finch has a pet, but its goals are general self-care. Stella is built around manifestation, but it has no creature and no game. That gap is why we made manifestlings, and why it is listed here.
manifestlings is a virtual pet (a dreamling) that grows on what you practise, with a wish you can look at again, a short game made from your words, small rituals, care on the real clock, and guided meditation with 4-2-6 breathing. It is coming to the App Store for iPhone, with Android later. There is one sign-in, and every new account gets 7 days of Premium free, with a free core after that.
It is not a replacement for either app. It has no narrated stories, and it is not built to track every habit you own. If you want a longer look at the idea, virtual pet self-care apps explains the category and the manifestation game shows how ours works.
Questions people ask
Is Stella or Finch better for anxiety?
Finch is the more practical pick on a loud day, since it offers breathing exercises, a mood check-in and small goals. Stella is a calming listen for wind-down time. Neither is a treatment, so if anxiety is heavy, talk to a doctor or therapist.
Is Finch free and is Stella free?
Finch has a free core with an optional Finch Plus subscription. Stella is free to download but sells paid subscriptions, and its maker advertises a 7-day trial. See the store pages for current prices, which change and vary by country.
Can I use Stella and Finch together?
Yes, they do different jobs. Many people use Finch for daily check-ins and goals, and Stella for a story before bed. Try the free side of Finch and the Stella trial first, then keep only what you open after two weeks.
Is there an app with a virtual pet built for manifestation?
manifestlings, our own app, is built around a virtual pet (a dreamling) that grows on what you practise. It is coming to the App Store for iPhone first, with Android later, and every new account starts with 7 days of Premium free.
